Why a Spell Jar Bar Is the Hen Party Activity Everyone's Talking About

Planning a hen party is one of those tasks that sounds fun until you're three hours deep into a Google rabbit hole, trying to find something that isn't a cocktail-making class or a spa day. Not that there's anything wrong with either — but if you're after something a little more personal, a little more her, a spell jar bar might be exactly what you're looking for.

What actually happens at a spell jar bar?

The Apothecary Bar arrives at your venue fully dressed — a beautiful stall laid out with glass jars of dried herbs, botanicals, and crystals, each with its own meaning and story. Guests browse at their own pace, choosing the ingredients that feel right to them, layering them into a small glass jar, and finishing it with a hand-applied wax seal.

The whole experience takes around 20–30 minutes per person, which means it works beautifully as a standalone activity or alongside food and drinks. There's no rushing, no pressure, and no two jars ever look the same.

Why it works so well for hen parties

It's personal. Every guest makes something that's uniquely theirs — a jar filled with the herbs and crystals they chose, for the intentions they set. That's a very different kind of keepsake from a branded tote bag or a photo strip.

It's a conversation starter. There's something about standing around a beautiful stall, picking up jars and asking "what does this one mean?" that gets people talking. It breaks the ice naturally, even for guests who don't know each other well.

It photographs beautifully. Dried herbs, crystals, candlelight, wax seals — it's all very aesthetic. If the hen is someone who cares about how the day looks on camera (and let's be honest, most of us do), this delivers.

It's relaxed. Not everyone wants to be the loudest person in the room on a hen do. A spell jar bar gives quieter guests something to focus on and enjoy without feeling like they need to perform.

What kind of hen parties does it suit?

Honestly? Most of them. It works particularly well for smaller, more intimate groups where you want everyone to feel included, daytime events where you want an activity that doesn't require a bar, brides who love nature, wellness, or anything a bit witchy and whimsical, and groups with a wide age range — it's genuinely enjoyable for everyone from the mum of the bride to the youngest bridesmaid.

It also works brilliantly as part of a longer day — a spell jar session in the afternoon, followed by dinner in the evening, is a really lovely structure.
